Is adding hobbies on my resume a good idea?

 When it comes to landing an interview, your CV is crucial. With a potential employer, a powerful and polished one can go a long way. Should you mention other factors, such as interests, in addition to work experience and education, soes that you stand out among other candidates?

Putting hobbies on your CV is almost never a good idea. This is due to the fact that it takes up space that could be utilised to showcase your abilities, accomplishments, and background.

Furthermore, depending on your passion, it may make you appear unprofessional, affecting the hiring manager's opinion of you. They don't need to know you play in a corn hole league or brew beer in your cellar, for example.

However, there are a few situations in which listing hobbies is a smart idea. It makes perfect sense to integrate your interest if it is compatible with the company's vision and mission. For example:

·         If you take in shelter pets and are interviewing with a non-profit or a pet-related company, it's a good idea to emphasise your love for animals.

·         If you're a volunteer basketball coach looking for a management job, you'll be able to put your coaching experience to good use and should highlight it on your resume.

·         Also, if you have a personal blog and are seeking for a position that requires writing skills, offer a link to the hiring manager so that they can check your work before an interview.

Another instance in which you should describe your hobbies is if the employer specifically requests them. The majority of job postings do not include this information. Some do, though, and see it as a tool to find individuals who are culturally compatible with their company.

If a corporation doesn't ask about hobbies and you're unsure whether or not to include them, be cautious. If it feels natural, bring them up during the job interview when the hiring manager inquires about your leisure activities. Otherwise, concentrate on your professional life and marketing why you're a fantastic fit for the position.
